Sean Stokes

Sean Stokes, MS, CHESĀ®, is a social impact communications leader and certified health educator with a passion for advancing health equity for historically marginalized communities.As an External Affairs Officer for FEMA and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Sean is assigned to New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands, and supports the Agency's mission to help people before, during, and after disasters.Before joining FEMA, Sean was a senior director at Ad Council, where he led the marketing and communications strategy for health education campaigns with the CDC, NHTSA, and American Heart Association. Prior to that, he served as a public information officer for a community health center in the South Bronx during the early COVID-19 pandemic.Sean began his career on Capitol Hill as a writer and reporter for the Voice of America before joining the New York theater community as a creative consultant. He leverages his expertise in storytelling to drive social impact.Sean is a journalism graduate from UNC-Chapel Hill where he was a Charles Kuralt Fellow. In Fall 2023, he graduated from Columbia University with a Master of Science in community health and education.
